The face behind the verse
What’s in a mini novel anyhow?
Write
When I write a poem a significant part of me is planted in verse, on paper and in the digital realm. I sometimes think the effort and impact one puts into a poem is not rewarded in the same way a novel is. But in my world a poem is a mini novel! It’s the beginning, the plot and the ending all rolled up in a journey where the reader interprets it differently from everybody else. For me that’s the beauty of the poetry I write.
I said of my first book Letters to the Lady that it was a book of love, life and landscapes. As I’ve continued my journey my poetry has become more abstract but at the same time I pretty much know what I see and feel and the words come out at that moment. Whatever the reader sees, feels, hears, smells or touches as a result of my poetry is theirs and their alone.
Once
I tend to write my poems in raw form and this raw form usually becomes the final piece with very little tweaking. It’s not for everybody but I’ve always done this. There is something in the beauty of the moment and words appearing from observation and imagination.
Meaning
I’m not getting thousands of reads. I’m not getting hundreds and ten responses is a cause for a popular poem. The most important and rewarding thing is the positive feedback I get, each person having their own interpretation of the poem and the fact they have chosen to show their appreciation.
End
I will never stop writing poetry. It’s so clear to me. I don’t have a form I follow and feel I have the creative license to just write poetry as I see it. That is true freedom.
