Is climate change an obsession of the comfortable?

I’m not comfortable with the current narrative. “Our planet is doomed”, “it’s heating up at a rate that will impact billions”, “it’s an emergency”, “tax the grandchildren of the perpetrators” etc.

I have a problem because for many this already a reality. I thought I’d Google “the slums of the world” In truth I did not have to but for the sake of this article I thought it might give you a little insight as why I make this argument. People are suffering already so why do we focus on climate change when the basic foundations — water, sanitation, food, health, sickness, education are simply not there for many yet school children (who have none of these things to think of) leave school to march. Who are they marching for? For their peers in the slums? Oh, no, for future generations and wildlife. From the outside (alien life — just come along for the journey here!) it sometimes must seem like “Oh, they are looking out for the wellbeing of the planet right? or “Some people must matter more than others?

Oh yeah, I’ve got access to a Carbon Footprint Calculator….and running water and I might check into Netflix later….hmm
